4 Star IHIBRP Book Review: “The Mystery of the Phantom Feline: A Lucius Jackson Mystery (Lucius Jack

A Classic Game Of Black Cat & Mouse!

Ghost hunters and spiritual seekers alike will enjoy this spooky mystery suspense novel set in 1925 in an old northern Massachusetts coastal estate where Detective Lucius Jackson and his sidekick, Maureen “Mo” Rennik ply their paranormal and mystery-solving skills to solve a murder.

Jewett’s plotline has all the hallmarks of a good old-fashioned who-done-it. The setting of an eerie mansion situated near a graveyard, where passages lead to hidden chambers, and rumors of ghosts, satanic rituals, and demons run rampant among the murder candidates and will send shivers up the spine of any reader.

Although the author’s cast seems borrowed from the pages of other classic detective novels of this era, with stereotypical characters—the sardonic police detective, the wealthy widow in mourning, the creepy son, the obsessed couple, and even a polite and accommodating butler, the individual situations they are placed in add richness and an air of mystery to this classic game of black cat and mouse.
