“The Asgardian Prophecies: The Black Quasar” by Amber Daniels & Charley Swanda - IHIBRP 5-Star

Norse Mythology Gloriously Gone Berserk!

Happy 15th Birthday, Asgardian—Buckle your seatbelt and get ready to cross the Bifrost—that glorious rainbow bridge—between realms to find your true destiny in Amber Daniels and Charley Swanda’s Norse Fantasy Action Adventure novel, “The Asgardian Prophecies: The Black Quasar”.

Ok... So, before I start off this review, I just want to say that I revel in all things “Viking”. I love the complexity of Norse mythology with its warrior society based on a hierarchy of gods who wield immeasurable powers, yet possess the same flaws and self-doubts as do any mere mortal beings. It’s just that the whole theme that revolves around Viking culture and folklore calls to the hero inside us all; with its wide panorama of embattled gods and goddesses, its bizarre presentation of the afterlife as an endless battle followed by the most raucous of celebratory banquets, its visions of stricken warriors tended to by Valkyries who sweep them off the battlefield at the moment of their deaths and carry them off to Valhalla, its unification of a people under a single cause—to live and fight as one before dying in a blaze of glory, its larger than life gods and demigods... As you can tell, for me, the list goes on and on. Viking culture feeds off our baser instincts for survival even as it heightens one’s awareness that life is limited. But the message is clear—if you defend your beliefs, stand up for a cause, and are willing to die in the pursuit of it, you will receive your just reward and live forever.

SKOLL!

So, ok… At first glance, this novel may seem like just another folktale about a budding young warrior set upon on a fated mission he knows little about. But, all the elements of Norse mythology come together in this imaginative and unique tale that truly upholds all the richness of Viking culture I mentioned above. From the initial introduction to the claiming of his birthright, Charles (aka Magnus) comes to know the very heart of what it means to be an Asgardian and how his life will be forever changed. With a thorough knowledge of Norse mythology and folklore, and an understanding of what being a Viking warrior truly means, Authors Daniels and Swanda detail their character’s impressions with such flair, humor, and candor that Magnus’ journey easily becomes our own.

As an absorbing high-action/adventure and mythologically based fantasy, “The Asgardian Prophecies” is one amazing read that simply can’t be overlooked. Get ready to battle, Odinites—Norse mythology and culture come alive in “The Asgardian Prophecies”!

At the risk of being personal, I’d like to say that Aliya DalRae must be a woman who is deeply passionate and in love with her own significant other, for only a woman in such a state is able to relate to Maggie’s pain and longing at having her beloved soul-mate suddenly and mercilessly stripped from her life. From Maggie’s affirmation of their love, to her sharp denial that Patrick would ever think to leave her alone, to her descent into madness—all the while struggling to reconcile her relationship with her young daughter, the author expresses a full range of human emotion set against a brilliant plotline that is intimately relatable to readers who have suffered the loss of a loved one. I’m certain that after reading “Bitter Loss”, no one who will be able to resist sinking their teeth into “Bitter End”—the fourth and final chapter in the Fallen Cross Pack Series.
