“Discovering Witchetty Waters (Scarlett and Mason Book 1)” by Trisha J. Kelly - IHIBRP 4-Star Book R


A Suspenseful Story Filled With Magic And Wonder!

“Discovering Witchetty Waters”, by Author Trisha J. Kelly, is just the first chapter in the adventures of Scarlett and Mason—two siblings, who at age 13 and 9 respectively—are destined to remove a centuries-old curse that will unlock the secrets of six cursed islands and restore a great treasure to their rightful heirs.

Kelly pens a suspenseful story filled with magic and wonder, even as the children are fiercely pursued and threatened by the forces working against them. A grand sense of tradition and reverence for the past is superimposed onto this yarn, making the legend of Witchetty Waters seem as real as any chapter taken out of history.

Each of Kelly’s characters is perfectly suited to their role—especially Scarlett and Mason, who are as rambunctious and endearing as any adolescent heroes—while the plot line moves along at a quick pace. There are some formatting and grammatical issues with Kelly’s text (Kindle version), such as missing punctuations and capitalizations, as well as run-on sentences that affected my rating of this novel. However, these problems did not seriously detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.

“Discovering Witchetty Waters” most definitely holds one’s interest, and it’s the perfect story for any youngster just getting into their first series of chapter books. I recommend this fun and rowdy adventure for ages 9 & up.
