“The Alien Diaries” by Glenn Devlin - IHIBRP 5-Star Book Review


History & Sci-Fi Collide In An All-Encompassing, Phenomenal Read!

Science fiction, fantasy, futuristic technology, US colonial history, biblical proclamations, and a billionaire’s plans seamlessly blend together in Author Glenn Devlin’s tantalizing Sci-Fi masterpiece, “The Alien Diaries”.

At the behest of a mysterious and eccentric billionaire, two people—an expert book preservationist and an administrator, are presented with the rare—and extremely lucrative—opportunity to release themselves from the bounds of modern society to manage a rare 18th-century plantation. This lonely edifice is located on a highly secure and remote property that is seemingly plucked from time—America’s colonial past.

Devlin conjures a myriad of colorful and authentic mental images through the elaborate detailing of his plotline and characters. From the very beginning of this richly appointed novel, it’s obvious the author has done more than an adequate job with his historical research since he presents the accoutrements of living a life based in the late 1700’s in accurate, vivid, and picturesque terms while blending 21st-century advancements—and beyond—into a remarkable Sci-Fi story that successfully merges characters from both eras.

Endowing his characters with complex and intriguing backgrounds makes Devlin’s story plausible as Colin and Maddie—Devlin’s two main protagonists—engage in constant power struggles and a tug-of-war over an unwelcome and unwanted romance, even as they strive to adhere to the strict guidelines set forth by their employer and learn about each other’s tragic pasts. When a mysterious diary, written by a colonial teenage girl who bears witness to a strange alien encounter takes center stage in their lives, this unique and engaging tale takes flight, plunging the two temporary caretakers of the strange estate in mortal danger from alien forces. To save their own lives, and quite possibly the lives of others, Colin and Maddie must quickly solve the mystery of the diary to escape the wrath of these aliens and find out what they want.

Moral and ethical themes run deep throughout “The Alien Diaries”—At the core of this creative and powerful novel, lies the fundamental question of equality... the right to choose and pursue a life of freedom and liberty without fear of enslavement.

History buffs, Sci-Fi enthusiasts, fantasy lovers, hopeless romantics, and especially techies and geeks will appreciate this truly phenomenal read.
