What happens when a group of teens finds a mysterious boat abandoned and drifting near their sheltered island? Follow Rob, his brother, and a small group of their friends and find out as they leave the protection of their isolated community and sail off into a world teeming with wonder, but fraught with danger.

From beginning to end, B.A. Simmon’s “The Voyage of the Entdecker” hooks readers with plenty of high-action, rousing adventure. The plotline of this story takes Simmon’s characters from the innocence of their youth—setting out on their first solo adventure, learning how to survive on their own, discovering new islands and peoples, running aside mythological sea-creatures, and even finding treasure—to becoming involved in a war that puts their isolated home island in danger. With strong and unique characters that are endowed with individual strengths and weaknesses that compliment the underlying themes of friendship and cooperation, the author relates to every type of reader by encouraging a personal connection to each protagonist and makes a lasting impression through the trials and tribulations they all share.

This novel takes readers on a coming-of-age epic that won’t soon be forgotten. Simmons pens a tale that readers will find hard to let go. Fortunately, they won’t have to since the series continues and follows the journeys of the original Entdecker crew and all their new mates in what is sure to be a highly successful novel series. “The Voyage of the Entdecker” does contain violence and minor adult situations, however, they are no more than the usual children’s classics present, and so I recommend this read for ages 12 and up.
