“Azimuth (The Rahki Chronicles Book 1)” by Rennie St. James - IHIBRP 5-Star Book Review

A Secret World Of Gypsy Mythology, Martial Arts, & Mayhem Is Stunningly Revealed!

Overview: Mia Rayner copes with mythology, martial arts, magic, and mayhem as she protects a 6-year-old orphan professed to be the world’s future savior. Author Rennie St. James delves into the magical, secretive world of the Romani in her mystical, action-packed, Gypsy fantasy adventure, “Azimuth”.

Coming to terms with one’s newly discovered heritage is one thing, but doing so while you’re coming to terms with being a shifter and taking on the added responsibility of protecting a child prodigy is another. St. James beautifully captures the impossible struggle going on inside her main protagonist, Mia, as she is forced to choose between her former life and her newfound destiny. All the emotions, self-doubts, and growth described in that situation draw readers into a story that is as unique and creative as it is daring and bold.

St. James infuses her Fantasy tale with a hefty blend of History’s Gypsy Romanian (Rom) culture and tradition as Mia and her band of protectors lead her and her young charge on a difficult and hectic journey between backwoods roads, forest encampments, and major urban sites. A strong sense of the history, language, terminology, customs, and manners of these secretive people, is demonstrated throughout this read, revealing a mini-course on Gypsy culture embedded within the actual story.

“Azimuth” might be a bit long on moving its characters forward from place to place, using its many stopovers for a hefty amount of self-reflection and contemplation, but this is a unique and fascinating read that most fantasy lovers, and even history buffs concerned with Gypsy culture, will enjoy.

I recommend this paranormal fantasy read for ages 13 and up.
