“Dragonhaze: A Dragonhall Chronicles Novel (The Reasoner Trilogy Book 1)” by Mirren Hogan - IHIBRP 5

A Magical, Suspenseful, & Foreboding World Of Humans And Dragons!

Overview: In Dargyn, magic is forbidden, and the penalty for using it is death. Kaida, one of the great dragon riders, suddenly finds herself torn between duty to her country, the protection of her dragon, and loyalty to her only child when her former husband turns in their son to the authorities.

Hogan’s world-building skills are top-notch as she presents a caste-like society where everyone knows their place, educators—like teachers and librarians—are at the top of the ladder, and menial workers—such as weavers and servers—remain at the bottom of the social pyramid. The author tosses in an additional element of negative bias and fear of possible arrest against those who once saved their people through the use of magic—including the dragon riders. An ever-present sense of suspense and foreboding permeates this tale with a series of murders and terrorist attacks urging readers to pace themselves as the responsible individuals in this page-turning read are identified in due time.

Hogan’s characters are well-developed and unique. Her creativity in formulating awkward situations between strongly divided family members while pairing other characters with extremely supportive individuals maintains a beautiful balance in this story. Providing a telepathic link between riders and their dragons—who seem to have insight into the inner workings of this world and its inhabitants, greatly enhances the storyline as much as it affects its outcome.

Hogan’s unique vocabulary and nomenclatures do take some getting used to, so this may be a somewhat difficult read in the beginning chapters, but once one gets used to this charming but dangerous new world, getting lost between the lines and pages of this epic novel is a given.

With no more violence than the average teenage read and no sexual situations whatsoever, I highly recommend this read for ages 13 and up.

Congratulations to the author on this award-winning story! This novel will be permanently featured on my website at AuthorJBRichards.com under IHIBRP 5 Star Recommended Reads!
