“Deadly Deception: Insomniac” by P.J. Mann - IHIBRP 4-Star Book Review

A Deep Psychological Thriller!

Overview: Laura Jefferson is offered a radical treatment for her insomnia at an exclusive hotel, but when a detective arrives with questions concerning Dr. Wright’s methods, Laura can’t help but wonder about the truth behind the good doctor’s supposed miracle treatment.

P.J. Mann sweeps readers forward in this taut psychological thriller as she picks up on the trail on Dr. White’s research methods that she began in the first harrowing chapter of her Deadly Deception mystery series. As is usual for a mystery novel, readers are provided only a preliminary glimpse into what is truly happening when the doctor’s insomnia patients begin to wonder what is happening to themselves and their peers as they begin suffering strange side-effects linked to his unconventional and experimental treatment method.

From the mysterious noises heard in the hotel hallways each night to the enigmatic cast of European characters populating this read, Mann provides a multitude of mysteries that any reader will enjoy pondering. For readers who love deep psychological mysteries, “Deadly Deception: Insomniac” is a suspenseful read with great content. For American readers, who take issue with unnatural-sounding or stilted dialogue and an obvious lack of contractions, however, the text may seem unpolished or unedited—especially when read aloud. A sound editing or verbal read-through of Mann’s character dialogues would go a long way toward making speech-patterns and other European references work better and sound more natural to American readers.

I would recommend “Deadly Deception: Insomniac” to any mystery lover who enjoys delving into the inner workings of the mind. Like most adult mystery thrillers, this novel does contain adult situations, language, and relationships, along with some steamy romance scenes between two adult males. Overall, Mann’s tale is a sublime and fascinating read for ages 17 and up.
